Compulsions

Compulsive: the theme of today.

“No-choice-but-to-do-it”

I walk by once, then twice;

odds are intolerable.

I try to step away.

Anxiety crashes over the calm.

Twice more I walk by;

but only to tame the beast,

only to make sure nothing’s wrong.

I fidget once, twice.

There; now it is even.

Control over these small things,

keeps me feeling strong. Even.

But, for how long?

Compulsive: how can I just stop?

This control I have

now puppets me around;

“Go back, once, twice,

as long as it is…”

Even; no choice but to do it.
